Exeter Home of the White Squirrel
Exeter is a major commercial centre for South Huron with numerous shops and restaurants to serve visitors. It is a tidy town that shows off some of the most beautiful parks and recreation areas in Huron County. Some of those parks are home to Exeter’s famous white squirrels, which are unusual since they are not albinos, but a white colour phase of the common Gray squirrel. They may be seen romping through MacNaughton Park where the MacNaughton-Morrison Trail follows the creek to Morrison Dam Conservation Area as part of the South Huron Trail. The trails are well groomed for biking, hiking or skiing over scenic bridges and through riparian forests where opportunities for wildlife observation are exceptional. MacNaughton Park has manicured flower and rock gardens and an outdoor pool. Morrison Lake is a good place to cast a line or picnic in the pavilion overlooking the water.
The community annually hosts a baroque music Bach Festival and the Exeter RAM Rodeo showcases the skills of early ranchers with bareback and saddle bronco riding, steer wrestling, roping, barrel racing and bull riding in August.
